Eligibility criteria

Citizenship and domicile

Candidates must be Indian citizens who have either been residing in the State of West Bengal uninterruptedly for not less than 10 years as on 31.12.2025, or who, or whose parents, are permanent residents of West Bengal with a permanent address within the State.

The domicile certificate must be issued by one of the authorities listed in the notification, in Proforma a1, a2 or b as applicable. A certificate issued by any elected representative - a Municipal Commissioner, a Councillor, a member of the three tier Panchayat system or the GTA, an MLA or an MP - will not be accepted.

Educational qualification

Passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination in the General Stream, or an equivalent examination approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.

Candidates must separately pass both the theory and the practical examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics, as applicable.

Age

Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as on 31.12.2026. There is no upper age limit.

Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

An EWS certificate must be obtained from the competent authority in the format prescribed by the Government memorandum dated 09.07.2019, memo no. 325-PAR(AR)/3P-1/2019.

Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW)

Candidates domiciled in West Bengal whose annual family income from all sources in the preceding financial year, 2025-26, is less than Rs. 2.50 lakh are eligible for the TFW scheme.

The income certificate must be issued by an officer of the State Government of the rank of Block Development Officer, Sub-Divisional Officer, Additional District Magistrate or a Group-A Gazetted Officer of similar rank or above in a rural region; or by an Executive Officer of a Municipality, an Assistant Commissioner or above in a Commissionerate, or a Group-A Gazetted Officer of similar rank or above in an urban region. An income certificate issued by anyone else will not be entertained.

Other Backward Classes (OBC)

Eligible candidates must declare their OBC class through the designated portal of the Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal, within the stipulated period, as notified vide Gazette Notification No. 945-BCW/MR-23/2026 dated 18.05.2026, in order to avail the 7 per cent reservation.

A valid original OBC certificate in the prescribed format must be produced at counselling. Failure to produce it cancels the reservation benefit. No request for further declaration, modification or inclusion of OBC class will be entertained after the online application portal closes.

Physically handicapped (PH)

Admission of PH candidates is subject to verification and approval by the Medical Board at Medical College and Hospital, 88 College Street, Kolkata 700 073. The dates, time and venue of the disability evaluation will be notified later on the official website.

If at any stage of scrutiny an applicant is found ineligible under the prescribed norms, the candidature stands cancelled even if the name appears in the provisional merit list, a seat has been allotted, or the candidate has taken admission and been registered.
